STRENGTH IN STEEL

There are a wealth of benefits that come with building with steel. Steel framed buildings offer levels of strength, longevity, adaptability and ease of installation that other materials simply can’t match, and in the case of SmartShelters agricultural and commercial shelters, steel offers the ideal skeleton over which to wrap our super strength membrane structure fabric covers.

Our manufacturing facility in Wiri, Auckland has one of the largest steel bending machines in New Zealand. We receive the raw steel which is then taken through the process of bending and fabricating into the beams and other steel components used in our shelter structures.

Each of our shelter structures have been highly engineered to withstand New Zealand’s variable weather conditions. Full engineers plans, calculations and producer statement (PS1) are available.

Rectangular profile

All SmartShelters structures use Australian steel, fully galvanised on both the inside and outside surfaces to protect against corrosion. Our structural steel is between C350-C450 grade.

We take no risks and ensure we use square or rectangular structural grade galvanised steel with a minimum wall thickness of 4mm for our main shelter canopy hoop arches (which is much stronger than the typical 1.6mm steel tubing used by our competitors)

Our main steel profiles measures 75mm x 75mm x 4mm. We can also produce larger profiles, up to 250mm x 150mm x 4mm.
