COMPOSTING BARN OPEN DAY - Waikato

Join us for an on-farm discussion in Ohaupo, Waikato where we have installed: two Composting Barns (measuring 18m x 80m each), on a 360 cow dairy farm. 

This is an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in learning about a Composing Barn system and its impact on a farm. Lunch and drinks will be served.

Mark Turnwald from Ohaupo in the Waikato is a dairy farmer on this 150-year-old family farm, deeply rooted in the region's dairy tradition.

With the challenges of Hamilton clay and consolidated peat soils, combined with the region's wet winters, pasture damage on his 104-hectare property became a significant concern. Mark needed a solution to protect his paddocks during winter and provide a sheltered space for feeding.

To address this, he installed two composting barns. This year, he is milking 360 cows and aiming for a production target of 190 milk solids.
